Default USAFA gets artifical turf landing area

Local governments do spend a lot on recreational facilities like
hiking trails, golf courses, etc... I don't see why they couldn't be
persuaded to construct a few "Glider Parks" just as they have built
model airplane parks. (Don't ever say 'airport' - that sets off
alarm bells)

It just takes political connections.

Look at this, a 1.35-million-square-foot landing area for $3.6
million. The new
DG-1000's will have nice smooth landings, if the students get it
right!
I do not want to take anything away from the USAFA but why can't the
SSA
Chapters get some money from the government? It would be a very cost
effective
way to get young people early into aviation.
