Default Radioactive Mustangs in the desert.... 1 of 6

Was in my doctors' waiting room this morning and happened to pick up a
magazine with an interesting story.

Not a new story - or magazine - this happened in 1967. A local
pilot, Tony Schwerdt flew 6 Mustangs (that he'd bought from the
government) out of the South Australian desert, where they'd been used
as part of the British atomic bomb tests in the '50s.

All without the help or consent from the Civil Aviation Authority, who
took him to court for a severe knuckle-rapping and a fine of $40.

Now I'm off to return the magazine before it gets noticed.

Neat story..

FWIW:
B-17 "Nine Oh Nine" was once a nuke test plane as well
