I don't know squat about the configuration of the ASW - but as I read
your comments I immediately thought, can't you make an "adapter" of
some sort for the offending hole to create a correctly placed mounting
hole? Either on the strut itself or where it mounts? It might make
the entire length of the strut slightly longer but that would only
translate into the strut arm compressing slightly further when closed
(which, of course, could be a problem).

Then again, I might be way off base. Just some random thoughts which
you are welcome to ignore.
