In long article the NY Times profiled soaring, with photos, and, in the online edition, a short movie.

If you would like to see a REALLY great article on gliding in the New Your Times, check out http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/13/sp...anted=all&_r=0

In the print version it was FAR better than the web version, filling 5 pages, including the front page of Sports Sunday section and centerfold page. If you can ever access a paper copy you would see what I mean.

It wasn't about soaring, but hang gliding, when Dustin Martin set the world hang gliding distance of 475 miles, beating Johnny Durand who landed 3 miles short that day. A really awesome read.

I happened to have been looking at the RAS that day and saw a post indicating their SPOT traces were active and watched their flights, so reading the article really made it all the more impressive to me.

I did some research to see how such a great article made it into the Times. The article author is the son of the publisher. Nuff said. It ain't what you know, its who you know. I emailed him a letter suggesting he look into a soaring article, but didn't see anything from it.
