NEW ORLEANS -- Classified information will be presented at a hearing
this week to show that a U.S. fighter pilot acted reasonably when he
mistakenly dropped a bomb that killed four Canadians in Afghanistan,
the flyer's lawyer said yesterday. Maj. Harry Schmidt, 37, is
scheduled to face four dereliction-of-duty charges tomorrow in an
administrative hearing at Barksdale Air Force Base in northwestern
Louisiana. He could face up to 30 days of confinement or loss of one
month's pay, about $5,600 US, the air force has said.

On June 24, the air force said it would not court-martial Schmidt.

His lawyer, Charles Gittins, said Schmidt will plead not guilty and
planned to "present classified information that makes clear his
actions were reasonable under the circumstances.
