If this were a democracy no "Negro" would ever have become an
African-American, and women would probably never have been given the
vote. For sure, the Civil Rights act would have been an impossibility in
the mid-sixties.


The civil rights act turned the "Solid" southern Democratic states into the
"solid" Republican states. The South deserted the Democratic party not because
they believed in Republican principles,but because they were furious at the
Democrats for standing up for Civil Rights..
