Can anyone out there tell me how many people can be carried safely in
the flight deck area of a C-140 transport.

If you mean how many seats the trash haulers had 4 seats and some

Pilot/Co-Pilot/FE/Nav on the trash-haul version.
A systems operator adde for the SpecOps type.

special ops had 5. This is only from my experience. The E model
trashaulers I worked on had bunks aft of the nav's station. The HC-130
N and P models I worked on had a radio operator's position in place of
the bunk.

That sounds correct if "safe" is defined as by the book.
If you were trying to jam bodies in anywhere they could go
the number would be much higher.
