OK, so all the concerns about an IAF or other waypoint not being

recognized
by ATC computers will not result in the pilot being surprised by a

clearance
that does not include the waypoint. The biggest surprise would be to a
pilot air-filing and the controller, like you, reporting back that the
computer does not recognize one waypoint on the route attempting to be
filed. Then Plan B would have to be formulated, but this is still early

in
the game.

Easily remedied. Just include a good fix outside the originating Center on
or near the desired route. If you can provide the coordinates of the
offending fix they can be entered just prior to it. The flight plan will
then process just fine and no alteration of your route is needed at all.
