And it is totally untested for hardware it suppose to run. Tried twice
to use XCSoar and both times found out that it does not support
particular device I had (documents said it should).

Did you raise a bug report?

If not, why not, since your bug report may be the first they've heard of
the problem.

IMHO if you're going to use FOSS software rather than buying a commercial
package or writing your own, the least you should do is to report bugs
and suggest changes.
