Jon,
I've gotten similar positive comments from others about MCO. I was
concerned that MCO wouldn't want to cater to small GA planes. Sounds
like I was wrong. As it turns out, the trip is scrubbed for this
week anyway. We're going commercial.

Dave,
You should choose whichever one you are most comfortable with.. That
is one of the great thing about mco they really treat the little guy
great. It is a big airport and you do need to be able to communicate
and navigate up to that level of airport. It is a lot of fun.. Have a
nice flight whatever airport you go to.

I've flown into KISM (Kissimmee) twice and have received good service
both times. If you get the ILS or GPS to RW 13 it takes you right over
Disney World, which of course they do not normally let you do. KISM is
convenient to most of the Orlando area attractios and is actually closer
to Disney (and probably Sea World) than MCO. And no toll roads!!
It always bugged me to come out of MCO and the first thing you see is
the toll booth (although the locals know the way around it), then you go
a couple of miles and there is another...
I can remember (I won't say how long ago) when I first drove the
Bee-line from I4 to Coco Beach, the toll for the entire length was $ .10
(10 cents) and MCO was still (only) an Air Force base and all you saw
from the Bee-line were several rows of B-52 tails sticking up....

Crimeny . . . talk about dating yourself :) , , ,, Mike, all the
BUFFs are gone from MCO for a couple of decades (early 70's maybe)
except one that sits somewhat obsured by trees as a Gate Guard at the
entrance to the International Airport. I have wondered if there is a
way to drive to it to get a closer look. I remember visiting Orlando
when I was a kid and seeing them fly around, thought they were so
cool.

The Beeline is still there . . . the Central Florida Autobahn . . .
but I think the tolls about $1.75 going from MCO to I-95. Was it
really 10 cents?

Take care and blue skies

John

Yes, it was really 10 cents...

And, best I can remember, it was about 1965. I lived over on the west
coast of Fla and another guy and I would occasionally drive over to Coco
to go surfing on 'real' waves...

I think they have added a couple of lanes to the Bee-line, but there is
so much traffic and toll booths that it probably takes twice as long to
drive the entire length. Of course, there weren't many traffic cops in
those days either.. ;-)

And yes, I look for that one lone leftover B52 every time I go by there.
It just doesn't look as big as they used to look...
