Default Own a piece of soaring history

When Ben Green imported his Libelle 301 back in the ‘60’s, he designed
what may have been one of the first clam shell trailers to be found in
the US. Certainly it was an improvement over what was at that time
available and by the standards of the time, very innovative.
At some point in the sailplane’s history it was purchased by Al
Santilli and the racing letters changed to “Alpha Sierra.” Al flew
Ben’s old Libelle up until about six months before his death at age
93. The Libelle is in remarkably good shape for it’s age and is now
co-owned by Colleen Koenig and Bob Hudson.
The trailer however is another matter. It is in a sad state of dis-
repair. The steel superstructure is in need of some serious rust
removal, the aluminum exterior skin in need of a paint job. The
fenders, which I believe were wood are long gone.
Is there someone out there in nostalgia land looking for a good
project? It’s roadable assuming the tires are not too rotten and it’s
awaiting someone to retrieve it and restore it to it’s former glory.
The bidding starts at $500.00. Any takers? If so, drop me an email
at and I'll send you some pictures.
