Default A question on Airworthiness Inspection

Ok.. I have a real problem with what you just described. An AC, by the
FAA's own definition, is considered an ACCEPTABLE means of compliance,
but not the ONLY means of compliance with the rule. So if the AC says
its acceptable, then there is no basis for it to be rejected solely on
those grounds.

Granted, making waves can be counterproductive, but its crap such as
that which really hacks me off about the FAA.

Look out - here comes the train! Make sure you have the actual, processed
Regiatration Certificate - FAA Form 8050 - in your possession at the time of
inspection. Here is an excert from a letter I had to send to OKC:

"The FAA circular on airwothiness inspection requirements states that I was
only required to posess the pink copy of this application in order to
qualify for an airworthiness inspection of my homebuilt aircraft.

Today, I was informed by the local MIDO office that they require that I
posess the actual registration prior to inspection."

It can take months to receive this certificate. In my case, the wonderful
ladies at the FAA completed my issuance on their lunch hour and faxed me a
copy. The inspector still insisted that he call OKC (on my nickel) to verify
that it was a real certificate.

P.S. You are posting in HTML format. It would be nice if you could switch to
plain text. It is difficult to "bottom reply" when you use HTML.

I am getting ready to set up an airworthiness inspection and have a question
on the paperwork. The FAA web site mentions two forms that are needed for
this process: Form 8130-6 Application for Airworthiness Certificate and Form
8130-12 Eligibility Statement, Amateur-Built Aircraft. It isn't clear to me
if these need to be submitted prior to scheduling the inspection or should
be submitted to the inspector at the time of the inspection. Any information
would be appreciated.

Never mind, I just got the word on the correct procedure direct from the
FAA. I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it's
not the headlight of an oncoming train.
