Default Marfa Wave Camp & Landmark of Soaring (Texas)

The 2008 Marfa Wave Camp / "Texas Glider Rally" is March 29 through
April 5. John Earlywine of Indiana is the appropriate "early" arrival
with his DG-1000, driving in from the Senior's Contest in Florida.
The camp registration is now full at over 40 sailplanes, and we expect
strong thermals and wave next week.

The dedication of Marfa as a "National Landmark of Soaring" by the
National Soaring Museum will take place at 11:30 AM on Saturday April
5th with the unveiling of the bronze plaque and a "glider mail" flight
at Marfa Airport. Our banquet that evening is sold out, as are all of
the Marfa hotel rooms.

Attendees who flew at Marfa in the 1960's include George Moffat, Dick
Johnson, Ben Greene, "Big John" Brittingham, Walt Cannon, Ed Byars,
Bill Holbrook, Lanier Frantz, Rob Buck, Carson Gilmer, Bill Snead,
Hannes Linke, Bernald Smith and many more. It is going to be quite a
reunion of pilots, crews and the staff of those legendary national
contests and the 1970 World Soaring Championships, first ever held in
the USA.

Marfa Gliders provides tows, instruction and glider rating checkrides
year-round, but please contact me in advance for availability and
scheduling.

Marfa Airport (KMRF) is at 5,000' msl on a grassy plateau near the
scenic Davis Mountains of southwest Texas, between Carlsbad Caverns
and Big Bend National Parks. For more info go to: www.flygliders.com
