Sounds reminiscent of what befell Sand Point NAS, here in Washington
State. The base was closed and handed over to civilian control. It's
taken many years for any sort of concrete plans to develop for how the
area should be used, and meanwhile it's steadily deteriorated. One
hopes the old brick officers quarters and administration buildings
will be maintained and put to good use.

The eco-Nazis in Seattle managed to spike plans to make Sand Point into
a nice, much-needed general aviation airport.
