At risk of being the odd man out:

I quite like the tactical aspect of gliding competition. It adds another
layer to the sport over and above simply flying well and exploiting the
air. For me, it makes competition more interesting.

With the start button / delay proposal we may lose goggles (I doubt it) but
we also lose this tactical element.
