I read these messages via the Google home page....

Right there is your problem! Google should be your last choice for reading
Usenet posts.

I am also no computer wizzzzard, but I simply use my ISP's news service
(Worldnet has a good news service) with the Outlook Express program that my
computer came equipped with, and write my own filters. Blocking individual
posters is trivial, but some spammers use a different address with each post, so
you simply look for terms that few (if any) legitimate posts will have in the
subject line, and tell Outlook Express to hide those posts.

It is a fun mental exercise to stay one step ahead of the dirtbags and it
takes me a mere 20 seconds to add a filter term. For example, one of my oldest
filter terms is "Viagra", another that I added just today is "paypal accept".
