I have inherited an EW Avionics D type recorder with the glider I am now

I understand (and I find this rather disappointing) you have to buy
additional software over and above what you first paid to make full use
of
the recorder itself.
There is however a simple MS-DOS programme that you can use instead. But
every time I try to connect up I get the message ‘put it in PRT mode by
pressing the PRT key’.
Does anyone have any idea what is going wrong or have I missed something

It's been a while since I had a 'D' but I don't think the DOS program
works on anything later than Windows '98.
This may or may not work:
Right click on your .ewt flight file, open with Notepad. Then File
Save as xxx.igc It's the .igc that's important. Use this site:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/
to convert the FAI/IGC track file to a Google Earth KML and view the
result in Google Earth.
good luck,
