Shot up on Aug.18 over Bognor, piloted
by Fl. Lt. Dunlop Urie who suffered
minor wounds. A photo from the the left side
shows 3 huge holes. This a/c did not fly again. Back broken

It just shows the pace of operations during the Battle of Britain. The
squadron didn't even have time to paint squadron codes on this aircraft
before they sent it to war.

This is what "Spitfire - The History" by Morgan and Shacklady says about
this aircraft:

X4110
Manufacturer's number 997
First flight 7-8-40
9MU 9-8-40
602 Sqn 16-8-40
Shot down by Bf109 over Solent. F/Lt Urie abandoned aircraft, injured
18-8-40.
Struck Off Charge by Cunliffe Owen Aircraft Ltd, 5-10-40.

Clearly the Shacklady/Morgan book errs, because the photo shows that the
aircraft could not have been shot down and abandoned.
