Memorial Day Poem #37, "Bring Me Home"
BRING ME HOME
You got home a long time ago
but please remember me.
There is one outside the wire tonight;
lost and in peril is he.
This Digger never made it in,
he missed the last dustoff.
This Digger is still fighting on;
lost and in peril is he.
This Digger can be seen
by the smoke that he throws,
at times he burns as bright
as the flares that explode;
lost and in peril is he.
Open up the wire,
give this Digger defensive fire,
send up your flares to show the way,
and bring me home tonight.
