Default Colibri V3 connections

I have a Colibri logger version 3. I haven't used it in several years
and I'd like to use it as a backup logger but have not been able to
get it to communicate with my PC.

The manual describes the connection as easy and automatic, however,
using the 9 pin D plug serial cable (no USB avail on this version)
using comm port 1 on the PC, the LX
utility only shows comm port 3. I tried to change this to 1 but
couldn't figure it out. The Colibri is connected to battery power and
is on. It would seem that the computer doesn't
recognize the logger. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It'd be
nice to not have to invest in a new logger.

Also, if anyone is familiar with the wiring of the Colibri, I have
used it simply as a backup to a 12v battery, splicing terminals to the
+ and - . The Colibri manual has the
wiring description and identifies the Rx (receive) and Tx (NMEA
output) wires that would be used to attach to a PDA connector. In my
case, a Compaq 1550. My question is: would
these two wires include the 5 volt power to the PDA? Or would I have
to also splice off the 12 power supply to power the PDA. I don't think
the 1550 could accept the 12v?
Any help with this would be appreciated also.
