Default Picture problem?

Marcus,
Not wishing to re-ignite arguments from the trenches, but it's because
your newsreader doesn't recognize the method being used to encode
those particular images. (All images here get posted as some form of
text, depending on the program used to post them).

Older newsgroup readers - often they are freeware - recognize the
older methods of coding, but not all of these will recognize the
newer, more efficient code-types that compress big images into small
files. Your newsgroup reader is probably looking at Yenc-encoded
pictures but doesn't know what to do with them.

Old conservative members of this group, and those who only want to use
free programs, positively HATE Yenc postings and want to publicly
disembowel anyone with the temerity to use such methods, but you'll
find there are plenty of easy ways to get hold of newsgroup readers
that cope with all forms of picture-coding. If you search back a few
weeks in this group, you'll find that someone has helpfully posted a
link to a website with virtually all the newsgroup readers available.

(And don't get hung up on "charters" and "rules" for posting, that
some people here throw around - the Internet was never meant to be
regulated by old, entrenched opinions, whatever they tell you).
