I saw these systems at Oshkosh. I have an Aviat Husky A-1 with
carbureted Lycoming 0-360 with Slick Mags. One question, can I hand
prop with the "shower of sparks" box? I am interested in it because I
have floats (summers) and when you push away from the dock, you HAVE
to start. I occasionally have reluctant (usually HOT) starts. New
plugs seem to help. I am getting tired of replacing the plugs every
250 hours (or cleaning). Anyone know about "fine wire" plugs? Anyway,
these are the issues I still don't understand.

BTW, due to cross firing of the prefrontal lobes I kept calling the Unison
LASAR ignition system the SlickStart... Slick Start is their solid state
'shower of sparks' box that can be added to most any magneto system for
improved starting... About $300.. I have flown a plane with one and it
worked as advertised... Hot fuel injected Lycoming and it fired before the
second blade..

The system I described was the LASAR electronic magnetos/ignition... Works
like a bandit... The last plane I helped time the magnetos on was an upgrade
from the Slick Start to the LASAR... I have not flown this plane but I did
help with the installation and getting it running on the ramp... If I
decide to upgrade the engines on the Apache, this system is on the short
list...
