Suction cup mounts

As I mentioned in a different thread, I use a PNA with XCSoar in the
cockpit. I have been mounting this with one of Paul Remde's big suction
cup mounts, and it has worked fine, only rarely coming loose in flight
(as long as I lick around the edge when applying it). But that's been
in thermal flights probably no higher than 7k ft. If I go higher
(oxygen altitudes) will it not work? Seems that is should be a problem
because it works off atmospheric pressure, and up there, there's only
half as much. Anybody have experience with this?

I've used the same suctino cup mount as high as 18,000'. However, I did
start at about 7,000'. I recall pressing on it occasionally just to make
sure it was snug. It was attached to a 1-26 canopy, just above the frame
rail, to give you an idea of the curvature.

The only difficulty I've had with the suction cups on the canopy is if
they get cold, the vinyl gets stiff and sometimes loses the seal.

I don't usually have that problem if I use another smooth surface in
the cockpit, just the canopy.

I've not tried any "real" system like Ram or other heavy-duty
comercial products, just the mounts that come with the PNA or
something from the local car parts store.
