Ok you've seen the digital picture frames for a while now.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H743WC This one (and many more) run on windoze CE5. Now watch this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5watadHqGAk Add a copy of XCSoar and a usb to serial converter and you have a 10" glide computer while 10" is overkill unless you fly a 232!! there are digi frames in all sizes starting from 2" up. Cool huh? Al |

Al,
I guess the question is what do these frames look like in sunlight? And will they handle the rough environment that is a glider cockpit? You need to find one that has a touch screen (they are out there). I have seen tiny key ring type ones, and 7" ones, but not much in 5" or so which is what I envisage to be a useful size. Let us all know when you have one up and running in your glider. I'm interested. Regards, Bernie. |

I've been waiting for someone to take one for the team and try to get WinCE (they say it works) to run on a http://www.alwaysinnovating.com/touchbook/ with XCSoar. Looks much better than a picture frame, great resolution, etc. |

![]() I think it's great info... I did read it a few days ago and spent some time reading about it and watching various videos. Need to find a 5" version with a touch screen. |

Will it run on the Linux OS that comes with the Touchbook? The Touchbook will run WindowsCE or Linux, but not XP. If you kept the Linux OS, then you might be able to compile a compatible version of KFLog/Cumulus, but most people that would consider that option are already using KFLog/Cumulus. |

Getting back to the original post......has anyone had any luck trying one of these in the cockpit yet. I'm also not sure the touch screen is that big of a problem. To tell you the truth many of these come with a remote.....might work out nice. I did a little research and it looks like the ClearNav runs about 700nits on it's lowest brightness setting, I've flown one first hand and I can attest this is plenty bright enough for everyday use. The brightest picture frame I can find is 400nits (many manufacturers don't list the value)....may or may not be enough? Anyone with more info? |

I would be curious so hear about the current draw of the glide computers with these super bright displays at max brightness. I would put money on the stated current draw is for the lowest settings. Was have a laugh with a buddy about the frames, would you like teak or plastic finish. Obviously you would strip the device down and panel mount it. Cheers Al |
