Small wonder the British were so eager to buy Hudsons. And Bostons, and Liberators, and Catalinas, and Wildcats..... You are doing Faithful Annie a grave disservice. She was the RAF's first aircraft with a retractable u/c (hand-wound, 300? turns). Designed as a coastal maritime patrol aircraft, armed with bombs and 2 .303s, one for the pilot and one in a dorsal turret. At least one wartime squadron added beam and floor guns, and I have seen reports of a 20mm cannon, but that could be a myth. At least one Anson shot down a 109. My second flight (just after my first, in a Chipmunk) was in an Anson. 1961 or thereabouts. -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |
