Default Downloading .igc fliles from Volkslogger

The security code in my Volkslogger is A21, and when downloading
flights the file is shown as xxxA21jx.igc when downloading directly to
the computer using SeeYou.

When downloading to a PDA using P-Strepla, the file comes up in the
format xxxXBW11.igc.

I am confused and have been unable to find why the file name is
different, or how it is assigned by P-Strepla if that is what is
happening.

Any guidance from someone who understands this will be greatly
appreciated.

Why worry? The igc file is valid right? I've never used Pocket
StrePla, but third party software can name these files anything they
want. Even though there is an IGC standard file name format those
developers don't have to follow that convention. The file name is
really irrelevant to anything except your peace of mind, the name is
not digitally signed you can just change it.

I have a feeling that the main purpose of the IGC naming standard is to
generate unique 8.3 file names, even when files are being collected from
a variety of loggers at a contest.

Except I suspect many CDs would find it easier if the contest ID was
encoded into the file name.

Why? At US contests that use Winscore a contestant's flight log can
be selected and viewed without any reference to the file name.

For when the things that are supposed to work don't. And you are left
with a bunch of files to work though or sort out. I ended up having to
do that last year at a contest.

I suspect Tim's response is the one you're after.
If you open the file in SeeYou, look at file properties:
In SeeYou, right click anywhere in the display and select flight
properties.
At the bottom of the Flight tab, you'll see the logger type. If it
doesn't read Volkslogger, that was not the file from your
Volksologger.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

JS hit it. At least, I now know where the file is originating.

Checking SeeYou as he suggested shows the file is coming from SeeYou
Mobile running on the PDA. The GPS engine is reported as Volkslogger
which is correct.

Now, I just need to figure out why P-Strepla shows it has found the
Volkslogger, and has the correct file, but somehow downloads the
SeeYou file on the PDA to the SD Card.

Duh I should have recognized the filenames as from SeeYou Mobile.

Are you sure that P-Strepa is copying the SeeYou Mobile file?

SeeYou Mobile can put the IGC file it creates directly on your SD
card.

Start SeeYou Mobile and go to SettingsFiles and look at what "Flight
folder"
is set to. That may solve one part of the mystery.

I've just browsed P-Strepla's features, and it seems to me that this
software cannot download files from flight recorders (like Volkslogger).
It only uses Volkslogger as a source of GPS signal and barometric altitudes.

So P-Strepla is perfectly correct saying it has found and connected to
Volkslogger. But it has nothing in common with IGC-sanctioned flight
recording.

SeeYou Mobile cannot download files as well. There's a companion
application called ConnectMe (freeware) which does it.

Usually there's no need to download logger's files to PDA, as they are
to be analysed on PC anyway. You can connect Volkslogger to PC directly
to make the download.
