Online Rooms Bookings VS Personal Presentation to Hotels

Hey Comrades,
I have been booking my hotel rooms via internet portals for several
years now...i like doing so because you get to compare who is asking
for the lowest price on particular hotel room.I am now in
dilemma.....between online hotel bookings and personal walk in
bookings....where does one get the best rates? i will appreciate
advice from travel experts.Thanks
