Cambridge 302 Problem - Help

Need ideas on Cambridge 302 problem that has cropped up.

Latest F/W with gear warning and PEV.
When applying power, 302 boots and displays F/W screen, shortly after
the display counts down (3,2,1) and the display goes blank and the
needle sits on zero. However the audio of the vario still works. My
PDA still functions and communicates with the 302 with gps information,
I just can't use the 302 display interface to set values or use the
302's vario needle.

The process repeats itself every time it is powered up.

Is this operator error some way or possibly a broken 302?

Is the main function/volume knob/press button jammed down?. Take the
knob off the button and/or remove the whole C302 and check you can
feel the button press down cleanly and not jam. If that does not fix
it you have a faulty C302 -- which may just be the main switch
failed. I've seen similar to this just being something fouling the
switch like misaligned holes in the panel, screws coming in from the
edge of the panel and pressing near the C302 switch/knob etc.

Resolved...

The PEV button on the panel had gone bad, apparently making contact even
when not pressed. Disconnected the PEV switch and all is good.
