It's the Imperial War Museum at Duxford: http://duxford.iwm.org.uk/ A marvellous place, with many aircraft on show, plus active warbirds and hangars where you can see restoration work being done. Current activities include a CR.42, Beaufighter and P-47G. They have several air shows each year, and it's less than 45 minutes from here. Here are two more shots of the Catalina, taken in 2006. One of these days, when I've nothing else to do, I'll post some more Duxford photos. Perhaps if someone gives me a Round Tuit at Christmas. -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |

It owns a lot of the static stuff, but the flying aircraft are in private or company hands. Oh, I may have misunderstood - did you mean expensive as in admission charges? I first read your question as referring to running costs. Expensive or not, it's worth it. Mind you, that's easy for me to say as I'm a member of the Friends of Duxford, so I don't pay to get in. Except at air shows, and even then there's a discount. -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |

Many thanks, Peter.
Very nice. I'd love to see some more if you get time. If I ever get to GB the War Museum(s) is on my list of must sees. We'll be in Amsterdam and Paris in January, but unfortunately no time for any other stops. Bill Wolcott "Peter Twydell" wrote in message ... |

You're right, of course. It was in the back of my mind that it is, but I couldn't be bothered to look it up. From "Wrecks & Relics": Canso A, painted as OA-10A 433915 of the USAAF 55th ERS. Originally RCAF 11005, now G-PBYA. Formerly C-FNJF, CF-NJF, F-ZZBD, F-ZBAY. Owned by Plane Sailing Ltd. -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |

Like to see more of that Catalina [ A UUEncoded file (wooden-nickels-round-tuit.JPG) was included here. ] Thank you. I shall put it in a Safe Place until I can use it. That will be after I've installed our WiFi router, installed Win 7 on this PC and SWMBO's, plugged a few more gaps in the walls to stop the draughts, etc., etc. Meanwhile, just to keep you happy: I've also got photos of another Catalina, but they'll have to wait... -- Peter Ying tong iddle-i po! |
