I was clearing the memory on my Volkslogger prior to flight, and
suddenly the display froze in mid-count. Turned it off, and had no display at all when power was restored. Is my Volklogger a paperweight, or is there a remedy someone knows of? Besides shipping it to Garrecht, that is… -John |

IIRC, the battery gets replaced when the unit gets its 24 mo recalibration. |

Thanks, Bill. The battery was replaced last June, so it's not likely
to be the problem. Also, my difficulty started while the Volkslogger was running - sort of like Windows in that regard. Unlike Windows, the hardware didn't come back after a power off/on cycle. 8-( -John bildan wrote: Replace the internal battery? Could be the internal battery - manual says it's good for 10 yrs. Opening the case will void mechanical seal. You can have your battery done by some of the calibration shops will getting a new calibration. You might also check the wiring. Dan |

Dan The factory will still do repairs. I dropped mine last year, breaking one of the front buttons and sent it back for repair. It was pretty quick and a reasonable price. Nice to know they still support an old product. Mike |

Thanks to everyone who took the time to write back.
Since the unit is dead, I had nothing to lose by taking it apart - so I did. The boards all look good, well supported and with no cracks under 10x magnification. The interboard connections are all tight and seated well. There are no burned or cracked resistors, no popped or burned capacitors, no ICs with holes in them, eg, no obvious signs of catastrophic failure. The battery supplies 2.95 volts, so it wasn't the cause of the problem. If there's a fuse, it's hiding extremely well! The only thing I didn't like was that the pins on the bottom of the switch board have left marks on the top of a socket of a multipin IC, but it doesn't appear possible that the switch pins can contact the IC pins. I unseated and reseated all ICs that were socketed. After reassembly, the unit still had a blank display. But, there was also no smoke, so my investigation didn't make things worse. I've contacted Garrecht for an estimate to repair it. -John |
