Default Old ADF and XPNDR parts

Most of my panel is newer King stuff, except for the ARC ADF and Cessna 300
transponder. The ADF and XPNDR kind of 'stand out' because they have the
yellowish colored faceplates. So I thought it would be nice to find the
black colored faceplates for both, so they match the other radios.

I've looked on ebay, are there any other sources for those faceplates?

I know, it'd be nice to just get a new transponder, and ditch the ADF, but
we just spent most of our reserve on a new encoder, and DG. TIA,

Krylon makes a spray-on black coating (aka spray paint). If done carefully
it would look pretty good. Take the radios out first, which you are allowed
to do if they are the tray type.

DME and transponders are excluded from that.

They have a large variety of faceplate overlays.

I bought one for my autopilot and it came out great!!

He can take out anything he wants. It's the puttin back in that the FAA has
rules about.

I got one for a RT-459 transponder and it also fit perfectly. The
labels are transparent so the backlighting still works like on the
original faceplates.

Who has the authority to re-install the ADF and Transponders once I have
them re-finished? Any A&P or does it need to be an avioniker?

"Refinish? What refinish? That's the way they were when I bought the plane."

Part 43 appendix A (c)(31) says:

Removing and replacing self-contained, front instrument panel-mounted
navigation and communication devices that employ tray-mounted connectors
that connect the unit when the unit is installed into the instrument
panel, (excluding automatic flight control systems, transponders, and
microwave frequency distance measuring equipment (DME)). The approved
unit must be designed to be readily and repeatedly removed and replaced,
and pertinent instructions must be provided. Prior to the unit's intended
use, and operational check must be performed in accordance with the
applicable sections of part 91 of this chapter.

How about people with snarky comments about how you can 'remove anything'
explain which authority that's under?
