How up-to-date is the FAA Airmen Registry?

Go to http://registry.faa.gov/airmen.asp
and click on "Interactive Airmen Inquiry Web Site".

How current is the airmen database?
If the FAA issues a new certificate sometime today, Does the website
show it immediately? The next day? Within a week?

Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe... maybe not.
If the certificate holder elected to opt out, the information will
never appear to the public.

My understanding is that "opt out" means they won't give your name & address
to vendors. It'll still be listed in the registry AFAIK.

On a recent change to the restrictions on my medical it showed up within a
week.
But don't count on it as being up to date all the time.
I have friends that have had their updates take as long as 6 months.

You are correct. I just did a search on myself.
It gives name, certificates, medical.
Does anyone know what DOI stands for?

Date Of Issuance.

It usually takes about 90 days to show up. That has been my own
experience at least.

Actually, "opt out" is a real crock. There's no guarantee that the FAA takes any
special action on opt out requests (although they do sometimes).

It states on the page approximately what issue date they are working on.
Every time I have applied for a new certificate or rating (I am currently
waiting for the permanent on number seven), it shows up within a week
or so of when that "working on" date gets to the date I submitted
the 8710. I have then usually received my permanent certificate in the
about a week after that. The actual time from when you submit your 8710
to when it shows up in the registry depends on backlog at the FAA which
you can determine from how far back the "working on" date is. For changes
other than a new certificate or rating such as an address change, it seems
to be much faster. When I moved, the address was update on the web site
and I had permanent certificate with the new address in two weeks.

I emailed them according to their instructions for opting out the day
I found my address online. I received this response:

Mr. Perkins,

I have input a code into your airman record which will indicate that you do not wish to have your address made available to the general public.

Your address will be removed from the Active Airmen Database. The website is updated each federal work day at midnight and the downloadable file is updated monthly.


The Aviation Investment and Reform Act for the 21st Century, in addition to other statutory requirements, requires us to make airmen CERTIFICATE information available to the public.

Based on that, I'd have to say that I can expect my address to
disappear from FAA-provided lists within 40 days. Not that King and
Sporty's, or their agents, won't correlate my full name and cert
number with the list they've *already* purchased, but there you are.
