I'm planning to fly a 182 from SF Bay (RHV) to Mammoth Lakes for the
long weekend. Any tips from people who've been there? I seem to remember there was someone in this group flying out of Mono Lake. Also, I've got room in the plane, so if anyone cares to join, let me know (so far, I'm going solo, and that's a waste of the 235 HP). Landing 27, you'll see hills on the approach that should make you think about air movement. Be mindful of the mountains. Don't go at night your first time. Don't expect to walk to town. There's a guy with a dog I'd recommend for taxi service http://lairds.org/Kyler/photos/disk0...g/image_viewer but I don't recall his information. The FBO closes fairly early. I don't think there are restrooms accessible after they close. --kyler |

Ari -
Hmmm, very very very tempting to go. Are you a CFI by any chance? Gerald K. Ari Krupnikov wrote: I'm planning to fly a 182 from SF Bay (RHV) to Mammoth Lakes for the long weekend. Friends of mine who are driving up from LA have rented a house in Mammoth for the weekend and I hear there is a spare bed. Ari. K. Thanks Kyler.

Don't go at night your first time. I was there once, driving. The note in the A/FD is well taken. No night, no IFR on first trip. Don't expect to walk to town. There's a guy with a dog I'd recommend for taxi service http://lairds.org/Kyler/photos/disk0...g/image_viewer but I don't recall his information. Shouldn't be a problem, friends driving up from LA are scheduled to pick me up. -- Elections only count as free and trials as fair if you can lose money betting on the outcome. |
