Naviter Oudies in stock

Hi,

I had sent all my stock of original version Oudies to Naviter for upgrade to
the new bright screen, but due to the delay with the Oudie2s and customer
requests, I have received the original version Oudies back. I have the
following items in stock.

Original Version Oudie, New, $495 (I have many of these. They can be
upgraded to Oudie2 units in the fall for $60 plus shipping (about $40?) to
Slovenia and back.)
Original Version Oudie, Used (with the latest software upgrades and all
accessories), $395 (I have only one of these. It can be upgraded for about
$240 plus shipping.)
Used Oudie2, this is the unit I flew with in our DG-1000 for several years.
It has been upgraded with the new bright screen and the latest software. It
is like new. It is identical to the Oudie2 units other than its age. $595.
(I have only 1 of these.)

I think new Oudie 2 has issues working with Cambridge 302. See my email for more details.

Does the Oudie 2 still have the track smoothing problem?

These are nice units - appear to be essentially the same as the Oudie 2 with possibly a better internal GPS (no "smoothing" issue)

That being said - I'm using an Oudie 2, both with external GPS and vario data in my LS6 and as a standalone nav unit in club gliders, and I'm really happy with it - the screen is fully readable even in bright Arizona sunlight, and while the internal GPS does have a bit of a problem while thermalling, it's still fully usable for navigation and final glides. Biggest effect I've noticed is that thermalling circles are a bit jagged - but with no vario input, SYM is pretty weak as a thermalling aid anyway.

As far as price - broadly speaking, by the time you get all the bits and pieces put together, the difference is the price of the software (Duh!). I've been using SYM for several years now and really like it; having played around with LK8000 (pretty, but way too many numbers that I don't need or want to see!) and XCSoar (pretty, but still can't setup the display the way I want, and it does things I don't want without a way to shut them off) it was a no-brainer to go with the O2 and stay with SYM. Also, those other devices are still not shipping yet!

But if you like LK or XCS (and they are both impressive software with some features I hope SYM will copy soon), then these other systems make a lot of sense - and the smoothed GPS could be a decider if it was going to be mainly a standalone unit.

It's all fun stuff!

I dont know Richard, but if its using the *Atlas GPS chipset there is no
way to dissable Track Smoothing (and a bunch of other stuff).

Only Atlas GSD4t chipsets have this problem.
It is not true that all Atlas GPS are affected.
You should ask Naviter to be sure.

I have seen the display on this unit at Glider Guider and it is very
readable even in bright light.
