Default WGC News Embargo?

You can find some news if you look hard enough. Does the SSA not
financially support the US Team at all? Regardless, I would think the
SSA would take a more proactive role in helping to showcasing the WGC,
the Olympics of gliding.

Below is a comment by Arnulf Koch taken off the Facebook site:

"I love to follow the race.
But at the last WGC there was a live stream with 3D-tracking in the
Condor-simulator and live pictures from the cockpit. In addition there
was a live audio commentary. That was done really exciting. Especially
when they were turning or at the final glide or at outlandings.
Here I have some screenshot from the former Live Stream:

The current official commentatorship, however, is a clear step
backwards, and the (Google) Maps Tracking is a little bit boring.
Why is there no live audio commentary? Why is there no live stream?
And why are not all participants equipped with tracking devices and
why is the tracking system is so bad. You cannot even hide the various
classes (including tasks) to watch only one class, the barograms are
not updated, we see no current climb rate, speed, remaining distance,
etc. All things that came 2 years ago. Fortunately, there are a lot of
teams with frequent coverage in the team blog, but it would have been
nice if the organizers would present the WGC better and more
exciting."

The AOPA article was an SSA effort. There is also an article in RC Modeling about the WGC. Many SSA volunteers are on the ground at Uvalde. Things found in the online media are linked here when relevant, http://www.topix.net/hobbies/gliding

Many efforts were made to interest media outlets but it's all been Olympics and very hard to place reports. Perhaps we'll squeak in some exposure next week. Maybe a San Antonio station will pick a day to fly with the sniffer.

The Facebook Let's Go Gliding page has been busy, another SSA effort, as is the Twitter feed.

Despite reports, Aero-News Network has ignored the event. They were all over a recent accident though.

Watch the tracking at http://www.tiptop.com/app/wgc
