Default IGC-approval for Triadis RU2 and update to LXNAV externalMeans-of-Propulsion recorder box

I am pleased to announce IGC-approval for the Triadis Recorder Unit Version 2 (Triadis RU2) byTriadis Engineering GmbH, of Messen, Near Berne, Switzerland. The IGC-approval document can be found on the IGC and GFAC web sites given below. It includes three types of Triadis Recorder Unit, the RU1, 2 and 3.

In addition, the wording on the external Means-of-Propulsion (MOP) box by LXNAV d.o.o. of Celje, Slovenia, has been expanded in the IGC-approval documents for the LX8000, LX8080 and LX9000. For motor gliders with electric and jet engines (and some quiet 4-strokes), unless the Flight Recorder is positioned close to the engine and/or propeller, the recorded ENL noise figures from the internal microphone may not be high enough to detect engine running, particularly at low power. In such “low ENL” cases such as a cockpit-mounted FR and a rear-mounted engine, para 1.4.2 of Annex B to the Sporting Code (particularly 1.4.2.4) requires an additional MOP sensor external to the FR to be positioned close to the engine and/or propeller. The LXNAV “MOP box” is IGC-approved for this purpose and is an alternative to placing a complete FR close to the engine and/or propeller.

For the GFAC web site:

www.ukiws.demon.co.uk/GFAC

The table of IGC-approved FRs is at:

www.ukiws.demon.co.uk/GFAC/igc_approved_frs.pdf

and the Triadis IGC-approval document is at:

www.ukiws.demon.co.uk/GFAC/approvals/triadis.pdf

This will display the document in PDF format and it can then be saved.

The LXNAV Triadis IGC-approval documents are at:

--------------------------

For the IGC web site:

http://www.fai.org/gnss-recording-de...ight-recorders

Scroll down to "IGC-Approved Flight Recorders - Approval Documents"
Then click on the box underneath the above heading which says:
"IGC-approval Documents for all IGC-approved Flight Recorders".

This will call up a list of documents, the first one being "IGC-approval tables".

This is followed by IGC-approval documents in alphabetical order of manufacturer’s name. Scroll down to the Recorder type and click on its name. The IGC-approval document will then download automatically to the directory that you have set for downloads, without being displayed on screen first.

The file downloaded by clicking "IGC-approval tables" and also available via the GFAC web site, contains:
(1) a table of all types of IGC-approved Flight Recorders in alphabetical order of manufacturer name.
(2) a table of Manufacturers of IGC-approved Flight Recorders, in alphabetical order of manufacturer name.
(3) a list of all IGC-approval activity from 1996 to the present day.
(4) a history of IGC GNSS Flight Recording.

-------------------------

There are now 47 types of IGC-approved Flight Recorders from 17 different manufacturers.

-------------------------

IGC-approval follows test and evaluation by the IGC GNSS Flight Recorder Approval Committee (GFAC) in accordance with Annex B to the Sporting Code for gliding and the Technical Specification for IGC-approved GNSS Flight Recorders.

The Technical Specification is available through the igc-approved-flight-recorders web site above or directly from the GFAC web site:
http://www.ukiws.demon.co.uk/GFAC/do..._spec_gnss.pdf

The Sporting Code for gliding (SC3) and its annexes A-D may be downloaded via www.fai.org/igc-documents

Chairman, IGC GNSS Flight Recorder Approval Committee
