Susie and I flew down to Georgetown Delaware Friday to see old friends. As
I was turning off the rw, I noticed a B-25 parked over by a hangar. Big thrill: my late father (http://users.erols.com/viewptmd/Dad.html ) had a lot of time in B-25's, and it's always been one of my favorite warbirds. Even better, as I was tying down the Archer on the ramp, it started up, and taxied right behind my plane. Larry Kelley's B-25J "Panchito" (http://www.ragwingsandradials.com/ma...ge.aspx?db=B25 ). As it took off a hundred feet or so away, I just stopped everything and watched and listened. Great sound, great closeup view, perfect nostalga. Even Violet, our friend who was picking us up and who is not particularly an aviation enthusiast was impressed. She said it sounded just like we were in an old movie. I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks, Larry, for keeping her flying. -- Bob (Chief Pilot, White Knuckle Airways) I don't have to like Bush and Cheney to love America |

Thanks, Larry, for
keeping her flying. My sentiments exactly. I wish there was a better way to express our gratitude for these guys who keep the old warbirds flying. Sticking five bucks into their jar at airshows just doesn't seem adequate. -- Jay Honeck Iowa City, IA Pathfinder N56993 www.AlexisParkInn.com "Your Aviation Destination" |

About a year and half ago I was in the pattern at PNE with a B17. Kinda
neat to be told "you're number 2 behind the B17". Even the controller got a kick out of it. Dave 68 7ECA Bob Chilcoat wrote: Susie and I flew down to Georgetown Delaware Friday to see old friends. My favorite call was when I was inbound to NAS Fallon (NV) for an airshow/open house. Tower called to let me know that I was, "number 3 behind a P-51 and a B-25. Keep your speed up." Followed by : "Blue Angel Seven, you are number 4 behind a P-51, a B-25 and a Cessna". John Galban=====N4BQ (PA28-180) |

Last week as I cleared the active from my lesson, the tower said "Check your high two o'clock..." There was the EAA's B17 passing north to south. Beautiful sight! It had been (IIRC) at Deer Valley for the preceding three days. Jay B. |

I'm tempted to MP3 the radio conversations I taped from the Nellis 50th anniversary airshow. My engineer friend calls the audio "pilot porn." Wasn't too sophisticated: I just held the scanner next to the video camera mike and tried to contain my excitement. For example: Chuck Yeager, to a flight of six P-51s: "Tally ho on the Messershmitt" and, also "Tally ho on the P-38", "...Zero", "Spitfire." "Traffic to the northeast is a B-2..." "Looking... "It looks like a big bat..." "Blackbird inbound from the north range..." "Blackbird use left traffic, do not fly over the city. Do not exceed 250 knots." As for the video, it's got the B-17 Nine-O-Nine being escorted first by P-51s, followed by an F-117. In the same sequence, all in the air at the same time, is a B-25, B-17, B-1, B-2, B-52, and IIRC, circling with them are the P-51s, the 117s, a P-38. BTW, when the sky cleared of all except the '51s, they were "jumped" by Migs representing the Korean War. The Migs were in turn jumped by F-86s and the lineage of air combat went on from there. Still give me goose bumps thinking about it. I suppose I wouldn't have to worry about copyright problems or anything like that if I dumped it to MP3. -c |
