Just bought a new computer to support my flight sim habit. For the
first time since the SubLogic days, I'm flying without a stutter. I digress. I have a Garmin 196 with the Mapsource addon. I was able to reinstall the Mapsource application on the new computer and successfully unlock it. I cannot, however, get my USB card programmer to work. After a preliminary investigation, it appears that computers that have a Via chipset for the USB controller are not compatible with Garmin's card programmer. Can this really be? Am I dead in the water on this one? Do I have to keep my old computer set up just so I can program my little proprietary Garmin card? I think I feel myself gravitating toward Jay's point of view. Help! Rich Russell |

Help! Rich Russell If it's a stationary comp, you could get a different PCI controller on a PCI card for that specific task. (I think there are USB controllers in PCCard format for portable PC:s, but I haven't looked) Maybe you could ask Garmin to suggest a suitable USB card? good luck! /Rolf |

You know, it's funny that when you (or I should say me) get fired up about something, sometimes the mind gets so focused that you can't see what the alternatives are. I installed a PCI card in my previous computer to provide USB 2.0 ports. That might be my solution here. Thanks. Rich Russell |
