Can anyone recommend a good expandable type reamer (brand name) for aircraft
work? All I need to do is ream out an elongagted hole a few thousands of an inch but since it is an aft wing attach fitting and the bolt needs to be a tight fit. I have seen adjustable reamers range from $20 to $60 (5/16-3/8 in range). What are the differences? This is a one time job but I want to do it right. I have been told that a straight flutted reamer would probably be too big by 2-3 thousands as this will be a in field in situ job and alignment is a problem since need to go thru 3 holes (sandwich plate and tongue) in one direction. Thank you. Larry |

Thank you. You might consider buying the next larger size straight fluted reamer and have it resharpened to the exact size you require. Boeing Surplus has them for $2.00/lb. last I looked. Rich S. |

Here's a cheap set (mine were made in India) that covers a lot of ground.
Be careful, though; the blades seem to be too hard. I've shattered them in one of mine. Naturally the most useful size. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=38577 -- Bob (Chief Pilot, White Knuckle Airways) "Roger Halstead" wrote in message ... Thank you. Man... I used to use the things on a regular basis when working as an instrument technician. I haven't touched one since 87 and can't for the life of me remember the manufacturer. I'd just get a good machine tool catalog and look up the brand names. The ones we used were expensive. They were adjustable by a small strew in the end. One turn was good for just a few ten thousandths. I'd like to have a set of them. I'd like to have a full set of reamers ... and a mill ... and a lathe... and....
