I was updating my book at www.cockpitgps.com and thought that I would seek
some help from anybody out there with an Lowrance AirMap 500, 1000, 2000. There is a program called GPSout which is freeware at http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html that allows the computer running Microsoft Flight Simulator to output GPS data through a serial port. I have been able to try Flight Simulator successfully with Garmin aviation handhelds and a variety of software on a second computer, including the free Lowrance AirMap emulators. I have details in my book at www.cockpitgps.com under How to Get Proficient. I was hoping to find somebody with an AirMap 500, 1000, or 2000 who was interested in trying to get the actual hardware as opposed to the emulator to work with GPSout. I think the actual AirMap 500, 1000, or 2000 hardware will work with GPSout. For the GPSout.ini settings you might try: Sentences=RMC,GGA,GSA and Speed=4800. On the actual unit, MENU-MENU-SYSTEM SETUP-COM PORT and check the NMEA input box. By the way, do not do this on the emulated GPS if you are running the emulator program on a second PC. Anyway, if anybody finds this interesting to try, drop me a note at to let me know if it works. Thanks, John Bell www.cockpitgps.com |
