My airspeed indicator seems to have devolved a leak and pitot pressure is causing readings on the old uncompensated winter vario. When I blow on the pitot tube and disconnect the static line of the airspeed indictor you can hear air moving through the static line from the airspeed indicator.
Has anyone head of this before? I'm guessing replacing the airspeed indicator is the solution. Feedback would be great. Nick |

Yes. I had an ASI fail. Very prompt service from Winter.

The diaphragm has failed, likely due to corrosion.
No owner fix applicable. UH |

Just sent my Fahrtmesser back to Winter. Very quick turnaround and reasonably painless. The instructions are on their Website. That's assuming of course you have a Winter ASI (which is in like 90% of the glass fleet).

Does your glider perhaps have an old fashioned capsule total energy
compensation system on the mechanical vario? A leak in the diaphragm in that would account for the symptoms you describe. What glider are we talking about? I have an old (1revolution) ASI, with faded speed restrictions for LS 3a. I have checked it against my master ASI and it is working properly............How about $100 bucks?
