A Dumb Question

Everyone who wants an email reply to a thread couches his address as
follows: My initials plus my last name (commercial "at" sign) and a
period with that google thingy type email extension.

Is in only because I use Thunderbird as my news feed reader, because I
can see your email in the "From" block of the message header. I can
also simply click the "Reply" button vs. "Followup" if I want to reply
directly.

Or is it that because web crawlers harvesting email addresses only scan
the bodies of the messages and not the headers? Or am I one of the few
who has a spam blocker which blocks any email not from an allowed sender?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I've always figured I've been on every spam list of email addresses in the world since 1990, so I just ignore the problem.

There's very little email spam these days, actually. The spammers have moved on to richer and more naive pastures.

I just saw a boat load of spam in my junk folder. Most of it was
Facebook (mortgage refinance, Viagra, walk-in bath tubs, etc.). I guess
the Facebookers hope to get rich spamming everyone else in the world.

Spam comes from every social network, email provider, mailing list etc.
that is dumb enough to allow e-mail to be sent without running it through
a spam trap.

I subscribed to every spam blocker, do not email, and do not call list I could find and it nearly completely stopped all spam and soliciting. I started to get a few when I make online purchases but junk folder catches them and if not these are legit businesses that I can unsubscribe or opt out. The reason I write out my phone number or email is because when I would sell something on craigslist and especially a boat, I would get a soliciting phone call wanting to list my boat to help me sell it. I do not get these type of solicitations if I write out my phone number or email. Groups like this usually have to be joined and emailed verified but not sites like craigslist which I believe some type of spam crawler goes through the listings.

Oh, whenever I get junk US mail I usually open up and send back the pre posted envelope. But seems now the vendors don't put in pre posted envelopes anymore. Don't think I have ever done business when someone has contacted me.

An in law whom had Alzheimer's wrote two checks totaling $25K before his daughter caught it in the checkbook. A phone solicitor called twice a few days apart. They would not be doing it if It was not working for them.

Oh, I recently stopped Facebook, closed accounts on Google, Youtube, and Vimeo because I felt I was getting to large a foot print on the net. I had originally started these to stay in touch with friends but then others whom I did not know started viewing videos and trying to befriend me. Once I was hacked on Facebook as well. If I ever open any other accounts I will have a secondary email and open accounts as a fictitious person.

Yeah Ive been in a simulation lately myself. Simulating waking up in my home/hanger, rolling up the door and pulling out my self launcher and taking off from my 10 acre estate. Simulations are great, aren't they?
