So EAA gets to be a millionaire

Congratulations to our sport flying friends at the Experimental Aircraft
Association for orchestrating the introduction to flight of 1 million kids
14-17! EAA achieved its ten-year goal mid-November just a bit ahead of
schedule, in time for the Centennial of the Wright brothers' powered flights
of Dec. 17, 1903. See www.youngeagles.org .

Thanks to many glider pilots who joined with the Soaring Society of America
(among EAA's first partners) to contribute to the total, starting with Cliff
Robertson who participated in the very first "Young Eagle" flight in 1992 as
honorary Chairman. In the past decade, over 10,000 first-time flights were
recorded in "the world's largest logbook" as given in aircraft types perhaps
unfamiliar to most EAA members, such as the "2-33" or "L-13".

All of us who flew kids in gliders were pleased to be part of this wonderful
public welcome and pleased to plant seeds for the future. I hope our
participation reminds the public of the extensive success and fun the
Wrights had with gliders before Dec. 17, 1903, and that today's sailplanes
and soaring sport are tailor-made to introduce youth to aviation.
