Good evening friends. Recently got a plane with a Limbach L2000 engine. Is
this engine a Type 1 or 4 VW? It has a single magneto and I want to add an electronic ignition. I contacted Steve from Great Plains about machining a second set of spark plug holes in the cylinder heads. He asked me if it was a type 1 or 4 and I did not know the answer. Thanks, Jeff |

Thanks, Jeff That engine is Type I based, but a lot of Limbach stuff is Limbach-specific. I suspect that Steve's tooling will work. http://www.limflug.de/doc/eng/produkte/L2000eoec.htm Personally, I would not bother with the second plug or the second ignition system. I've never seen an NTSB report for an accident related to ignition failure on a VW. Fuel system failures, and the ever popular Human Error, sure, but ignition failure does not seem to be an issue. |
