I did some research on the background and licenses of
the Wright Flyer team: Ken Wayne Hyde - ATP AMEL, no glider license Terry Lane Queijo - ATP AMEL, CFI AMEL, no glider license Chris Johnson - couldn't find FAA info but bio seems no glider license Kevin Bruce Kochersberger - Commercial glider aerotow, private ASEL, CFIG! Do you think it's coincidence that Kevin was selected to be the first pilot? Do you think it's coincidence that between Kevin, Terry, and Ken, Kevin was able to auto tow successfully, while Terry had a very minor crash Nov 26th, and Ken broke his arm flying the 1911 version? I hope the SSA picks up on the fact that the first pilot of the Wright Flyer was competitively selected out of four pilots and was the ONLY one with a glider license... ....of course I'm sure the other three were signed off for glider solo and endorsed for ground-launch as required by the FAA... :P ....and I admire the moxy, dedication, and creativity of all four of those pilots and their support staff. Perhaps a great publicity stunt for the SSA would be to get all four of them to fly in a Duo Discus or DG-1000 or Nimbus 4DM and tell the story of how it compares to the Wright Flyer? Hehehe... ![]() |
