Well frotz. I've only flown at Turf a few times -- my first glider ride in
February, with the pilot we lost today (Keith Couliette), and my first aerobatic lesson a few weeks ago, also with Keith, in the aircraft that was lost today (it could only have been their ASK-21, with the Grobs prohibited from aerobatics). I just saw Keith yesterday (it was too windy for me to fly Turf's 1-26), and I was to have another lesson with him this Saturday. I did not know Keith very well -- he struck me as a quiet, unassuming fellow, not saying much on the ground -- but I enjoyed my two flights with him immensely, and he was a very safe instructor, at least with me in the front seat. Thoughts and prayers to Roy and the whole gang at Turf. Sigh ... ---------------------- The Arizona Republic Dec. 29, 2003 12:00 AM Four people died Sunday afternoon when a glider plane performing an acrobatic loop crashed midair into a single engine fixed wing plane at Pleasant Valley Airport. Keith Coulliette, 30, an employee of Turf Soaring School and the son of one of the school's owners, was flying the glider. Matthew Broadus, 36, of Redmond, Washington, was a passenger in the glider. Turf Soaring School is located at the airport, near 89th Avenue and Carefree Highway. The airplane was piloted by Carl Remmer, 82, a retired Marine Corps pilot from Sun City and occupied by passenger Bob Shaff, in his mid-80s, of Phoenix. It took off at the airport, but was not associated with the school. Crash debris was spread across about 200 yards just north of the airport runway. Peoria police and the Federal Aviation Administration expected to continue the investigation into Monday. ---------------- "Stewart Kissel" wrote in message ... http://famulus.msnbc.com/famulusgen/...sp?t=apnew&vts =122820031627 Just saw this on the web, aircraft reported as ASK21 and J3. |
