Hello all,
My old portable PC packed up definitely a few weeks ago and when I started looking around for a new one I found that none of them have the old traditional serial port anymore !? This rather leaves me in the lurch with the Filser GPS-logger in my glider, since the interface is over a cable that connects to the serial port. I imagine there may be others here who have come up agaist the same thing. Can anyone point me to a solution ? The model is Filser DX-50, functionally equivalent to the Lx5000 I am told, and possibly this particular problem will be the same for some other models as well. Cheers CV |

![]() This rather leaves me in the lurch with the Filser GPS-logger in my glider, since the interface is over a cable that connects to the serial port I was able to stop the interferance in my B-100, by routing the cable from the GPS, away from all the other cables. I also moved the radio antenna cable (RG-58) to the other side of the instrument panel. All my problems went away. I think most of it was getting in through the antenna cable. I even had my audio playing Mexican music in the central California valley, but I think that had something to do with some day labor's getting back at Zero Sinco. JJ Sinclair |

If a downloading program is available for an older PDA like the Compaq Aero 1500 series, using one of those might be more convenient than a laptop, and not much more costly (think eBay) than a potentially problematic USB to Serial adapter. I use 1530 to download the files from my Cambridge loggers to a compact flashcard, and it's a lot easier than lugging a laptop around. -- ----- change "netto" to "net" to email me directly Eric Greenwell Washington State USA |

Of what problems do you think? I tested some different low cost USB-to-serial adapters, and all worked fine, with Windows software as well as with Linux. Eggert |

All new notebooks have USB ports, that replace the serial ports. To connect an old serial cable, you need an usb-to-serial adapter. These adapters are to be found in electronic shops, and on eBay in the 10-20 $ range (at least in europe). They work fine. Eggert |

Get the FlywithCE "Downloader", use almost any model iPaq or Aero and you
can leave the PC at home......up/down load files, transfer data (turnpoints, tasks, airports) right to the pocket PC....I have cables to connect directly to the Filser devices and software link on my page http://www.wingsandwheels.com/lx_nav...ies_for_ip.htm once you have this you can also easily add FlywithCE Navigator if you ever find the need for more ipaq navigation (you probably don't need this with the DX50) and you're good to go.makes life without the laptop easy tim www.wingsandwheels.com "CV" wrote in message ... You are wrong! Not all work fine. We have tested several. Some work with some loggers others do not. We have tested several adapters with Camridge, EW, Volkslogger and LX, no one worked with all logges. This is a real problem. To me the "PDA solution" is the best solution. The adapter seems to be the quick and easy way out for the moment. But I'll keep the PDA in mind too. Must say that fiddling around with the laptop in the cockpit when you are just about to derig and have a thousand other things to think about is a bit invonvenient. Thanks again /CV |

Why not try an up-to-date laptop with bluetooth capability. With a bluetooth
adaptor in the cockpit downloads, uploads and task programming can be acheived from the laptop in your car or minivan! Ian "CV" wrote in message ... In article , CV
writes I had the same trouble when I bought a new laptop. Our local computer shop sold me a thingy which plugs into a USB port and has an RS232 socket which you can use for your logger. I think it is called a USB to serial bridge. It came with a CD to install the software it needs. It works fine with my EW logger.
