Default Internet access at Oshkosh?

I don't suppose there is any chance that the campgrounds at Oshkosh are
covered by a WiFi hotspot? I see that there is some sort of "Internet
Cafe" in Aeroshell Square, but I once got banned from the "Internet Cafe"
at Sun n Fun because the idiot manning the area saw me using telnet to
telnet into my home computer to read my email with mutt, and thought I was
hacking into their computer or something. At least I think that's what he
thought - he wouldn't actually say what he thought I was doing. So
needless to say I'd be a lot happier if I can use my own laptop to read my
email and upload my photos.

Now, Paul, you'll probably accuse me of being a Luddite, but it just seems
to me to be a travesty of the highest order to contemplate sitting in the
Mecca of all aviation -- Oshkosh -- surfing the internet.

I mean, heck -- I use the internet for EVERYTHING -- but if I am ever
tempted to surf while in OSH, I want someone to shoot me.

;-)

To answer your question, I've not heard of such a thing...yet.

Similar to people using wireless phones on cruise ships which we
freely toss over the side.

I gotta admit that it would be nice to e-mail home, and get in contact with
other RAP and RAH nutcases that are on site, to arrange meeting times and
places, and such.

You throw my wireless phone over the side, you'll be joining it.

The last time I was there, I spent roughly 12 hours a day walking around
taking pictures. At the end of each day, I couldn't move and had to ice
down my knees and gulp down every pain killer I could risk without losing
my medical (ibuprophen, tylenol and alieve) in order to have a hope in
hell of managing the next day. Is it really such a travesty of life that
I want to spend some of that non-moving time catching up with my friends
and family instead of just reading brochures?

Well, I suppose I could at that. But I'd still like to keep in touch with
my wife and family.

Last year, I was able to plug the laptop into the network at the dorms
at Marrion College. Worked like a charm. Of course, staying at Marrion
without a car all week was a drag since round trip on the shuttle was
$20. Oh well, live and learn.

Some sort of wireless access would be nice but I doubt I'd haul my
laptop anywhere around the field.
