One here now living in Canada, but when I was in Wellington, it was quite
vibrant with atleast two homebuilders in the same suburb that I lived in.
One was building a Nieuport 12 and the other a Sonex (I think). Lots of
homebuilders around... we started it all remember with Richard Pearse....

Check with the local aeroclub and also check out the Recreational Aircraft
Association of New Zealand (RAANZ) http://www.raanz.org.nz/ They are an
ultralight organization, but there are lots of homebuilders that are
members.

thanks for that, hard to kow where to start.... I'm a real newby, but
looking ahead if I want to buy my own plane, given the choice of a
"new" hombuilt and a 30 yr old cessna 150, I know where I'll be
looking, trouble is I havent been able to find out much info, so
thanks for the tiop0, I will go take a look.

Cheers

Gidday :-)

For a first hit, try SAANZ's web site at http://www.saa.org.nz/ --
they're the main NZ organisation for homebuilders.

There are also many NZ microlighters who do their own construction and
maintenance. Their web site is at http://raanz.org.nz/

If you've got any specific questions, i'm happy to answer them.

WOW, so what are you going to be building? and yeah from my quick
research its seems that things seem more lively the further south you
go :-(

Hey again, building a Pegazair 100, http://www.tapanee.com , I've just
received the plans, so hope to get the project underway quite soon. When not
found attempting to build an aircraft, I'm a full time B cat flight
instructor, so if you have any queries about a PPL or the like, drop me a
line.

If you want to build a project under CAR rule part 103, you will get around
having to hold a PPL, but you will need to join a microlight organisation
and undertake training to qualify for a microlight pilots certificate.

Regards

Mike

Just had a look, awesome looking ariplane, some of the homebuilts
look..... how to put this delicatlely.... a little "TOO" homebuilt,
but that looks like a beauty!

I am not really at the stage of building my own just yet, more looking
at
- Getting PPL
- Getting some "real" airtime
- Buying my own maybe, as finances allow, I was thinking that a
"newish" homebuilt would be a better bet for the money than a 30 yr
old Cesna or the like.
