I guess it's too long ago for people to remember the
Olympia 4 series, from the 401 prototype, flown by Bill Ivans for the US team in '56 at St Yan, to the 465 flown in '65 by the Brit and NZ teams at South Cerney. They all had Frise ailerons. The 419 had far nicer ailerons than the contemporary Skylarks, although the aileron leading edge shape was critical for balancing control forces. They all had bungees to increase aileron 'feel', and the position of these was different in each of the 4 examples I flew. |
